I'm Clueless
How do you get over things like depression and addiction quickly?
Vicki Maynard
What is the church's belief about using mental health medications in addition to the steps you listed above?
Steve Gillespie
First off; this is a great question for many people all around us and all over the world we live in and the times we face. Secondly, I must make two very important statements up front:
1. NEVER, EVER GO IT ALONE; SEEK OUT HELP (God, Family, Friends, Church Family, Pastor) YOU ARE NOT AN ISLAND; PEOPLE NEED PEOPLE!
2. IF AT ANY TIME YOU FEEL AS IF YOU DESIRE TO HARM YOURSELF OR OTHER SEEK IMMEDIATE HELP! REFER TO STATEMENT *1*.

Now for the Biblical answer on depression. The Bible has examples of men of God being depressed or having depression in their lives. (Quick List: Abraham (Genesis 15) Jonah (Jonah 4) Job (Book of Job) Elijah (1 Kings 19) King Saul (I Samuel 16:14-23, etc.) Jeremiah (Book of Jeremiah) David Psalms). The Christian Church is not above Depression; we live in a sick and sinful world it is part of the landscape. However Jesus said, These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33) He has also said Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. (Matt 11:28-30) So you see Our God and Savior cares about our emotional state. God through his Son Jesus is our Hope The grace of God in Jesus Christ is the sum of all hope (Colossians 1:5-6, 23, 27; 1 Timothy 1:1)
Our emotional state reflects our Level of Faith and our Direction of Faith. We must totally trust in the Lord, not in man, machine, or even ourselves. (Proverbs 3:5-6) It should be a committed full on faith. We must Know beyond shadow of a doubt that He (God) is whom He says He is and that He LOVES us and will Keep us in his everlasting arms. This regardless of what the rest of the world does or says. Only with this level and direction of faith can we Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! ***REJOICE: feel or show great joy or delight. Not depression!***
Lastly remember this; only you and God know your emotional state to the fullest. Never let anyone tell you how you feel or how you should feel.
So in closing How to over come Depression and Addiction
Step 1: Pray without ceasing!
Step 2: Get in God's word!
Step 3: Find someone to share with and pray with!
Step 4: Laugh; A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength. He will yet fill your mouth with laughing,
And your lips with rejoicing. (Proverbs 17:22, Job 8:21)
Step 5: Seek Godly Counsel.
Step 6: Write it Down. Journal both the Good and the Not So Good.
Step 7: Memorize Scripture Promises and Live by them not the words of the world.
